abstract

enterococci, as the major cause of nosocomial infections, have been shown to have an increase in drug resistance during the past two decades. theentrococcalemergence of vancomycin-resistant is very important nowadays. the purpose of this study was to determine the drug sensitivity of enterococcus faecalis and enterococcus faecium species against vancomycin, tetracycline, gentamicin, erythromycin and the presence of van a / b genes in resistant enterococci to vancomycin. a total of 189 samples, including urine, blood, wound and stool were collected from patients referred to masoud medical laboratory in tehran, iran, during years 2011-2012. strains of enterococci were identified by standard methods and antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed by disk diffusion according to standard methods (clsi). the test was carried out on the samples resistant to vancomycin for determining mic levels. the frequencies of vana and vanb were studied by using of pcr. a total of 89 enterococcus were isolated in this study. in this study, 89 enterococcus were obtained, of which 8 were resistant to vancomycin based on the disk diffusion method. all vancomycin resistant isolates showed vana gene, while none of them (0%) carried vanb gene. the results obtained by this study indicated that vancomycin-resistant enterococci isolates did not commonly carry the vana gene. however, vana gene was fairly frequent as it was detected in 8 strains, while vanb gene was found in none of the strains.

Distribution of Enterococcal Species and Detection of Vancomycin Resistance Genes by Multiplex PCR in Tehran Sewage

Enterococci are important because of their role as the leading cause of nosocomial infections which have a significant role in the dissemination and persistence of antimicrobial resistance genes. Methods: In this study, we determined the distribution of enterococcal species in the sewage treatment plants in Iran. Furthermore, we improved a rapid and specific PCR method using primers (sodA and ...

Detection and Distribution of various HLAR Gene in Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium by Multiplex-PCR

Background: In recent years, three new aminoglycoside resistance genes such as aph (3ʹ)-IIIa and ant (4ʹ)-Ia, that encode for the APH (3ʹ) and ANT (4ʹ) have also been identified. The aim of this study was to come up with a multiplex-PCR procedure for detection of aac(6ʹ)-Ie–aph(2ʹʹ)-Ia, aph(3ʹ)-IIIa, ant(4ʹ)-Ia genes in the Enterococcus spp. clinical isolates. Material and Method: 100 ...

Distribution of cylA, esp, asa1, hyl and gelE virulence genes among clinical isolates of Enterococcus faecium and Entrococcus faecalis

Background Enterococci are opportunistic pathogens causing severe urinary tract infections, surgical wound infections, bacteremia and bacterial endocarditis. Aggregation substance (asa1), hemolysin/ cytolysin (cylA), gelatinase (gelE), enterococcal surface protein (esp), hyaluronidase (hyl) and biofilm formation are the major virulence determinants responsible for pathogenicity of enterococci. ...

investigation of single-user and multi-user detection methods in mc-cdma systems and comparison of their performances
